Process Development Engineer
Scale our breakthrough RGB laser light engine to the high volumes AR glasses and automotive applications demand.
About the role
Brilliance is developing a breakthrough RGB laser light engine based on integrated photonic technology. We are looking for a Process Development Engineer who can scale it up, in a structured and reliable way, to the high volumes required for the Augmented Reality glasses and automotive applications of the future.
You will have a pivotal role between the design team and our manufacturing partners, ensuring the light engine is suitable for manufacturing and that a robust assembly process, built on cutting-edge photonic and semiconductor equipment, is developed. You will be the primary contact for our assembly partners, setting realistic development targets, making the right trade-offs, and explaining how the assembly process affects product performance, cost and quality control.
Brilliance is a start-up, but we lean on more than 20 years of technology development and IP within the Twente area. We are currently delivering prototypes to our customers while growing the company and preparing for high-volume production, a unique opportunity to join our core team at an exciting phase.
What you’ll do
- Develop assembly processes and design for manufacturing (about 40% of the role).
- Work with equipment suppliers and manufacturing partners (about 25%).
- Implement process control and working methods (about 10%).
- Analyse and improve process performance (about 10%).
- Project management (about 10%) and direct customer contact (about 5%).
What we’re looking for
- A proven track record scaling up high-tech manufacturing processes in demanding environments, at least 2-3 years of relevant experience. Semiconductor or electronics industry experience is a plus.
- Experience with (Design for) Six Sigma, Design for Manufacturing and process and quality control.
- An understanding of how assembly process choices affect capital investment, capacity and product cost.
- Broad technical interest, combining fundamental thinking with a result-driven approach.
- A self-starter who can combine pragmatism with an out-of-the-box mindset.
- A BSc or MSc in a relevant field such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or (applied) physics.
What we offer
- Work on cutting-edge technology that enables the next AR platforms.
- Be part of a high-impact deep-tech startup with big ambitions.
- Collaborate with leading industry experts and partners in photonics and semiconductors.
- An open and fun start-up environment, with variation and the freedom to do things your way.
- A good benefits package and plenty of flexibility.
- We scale up our company together: join in an early phase and make a big impact.
